Currently, Peru does not impose COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements for entry for U.S. and Canadian residents. Stay informed about the latest updates by visiting the U.S. Department of State at travel.state.gov or the Government of Canada at travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories.

HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS

If your itinerary includes high-altitude Andean destinations like Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Puno, and Lake Titicaca, altitude sickness may be a concern. Consult your healthcare professional for advice on prevention and treatment. Hiking the Inca Trail from KM 104 to Machu Picchu requires a Medical Waiver signed by your doctor due to the challenging nature of the hike and high altitudes. Adequate physical fitness and proper footwear are essential.

CURRENCY AND PAYMENTS

The U.S. dollar is widely accepted in Peru alongside the local currency. Carry new bills in smaller denominations. Major credit cards are accepted in high-end establishments, while cash is preferred at smaller shops and local tourist spots. For small gratuities, use the local currency. ATMs are available in Lima, Cusco, and major towns, allowing withdrawals of up to US$200 or the equivalent in soles per transaction.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Professional photographic equipment, including tripods, requires special authorization and a fee for use at Machu Picchu. If you plan to carry multiple cameras or specialized lenses, contact VP before departure. For hassle-free entry, consider bringing a smaller camera.

Sonco Wasi (heart house) Visit

For guests visiting Sonco Wasi, a project supported by VP Philanthropy, packing small items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, and soap for gifting is encouraged. Please follow VP’s guidelines on gift-giving.
