Cities like Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and the Peruvian Amazon are just some of the many destinations you can’t miss if you are in search of unique scenery worthy of being photographed.

Peru has a world-famous photographer, Mr. Martin Chambi.  Puno photographer Martín Chambi (Coasa, Puno 1891-Cusco 1973) is undoubtedly the dominant figure of Peruvian photography in the first half of the 20th century. This master photographer portrayed rural activities, landscapes, countless archaeological sites, popular and urban festivals, the arrival of modernity with airplanes, motorcycles, roads and factories, as well as the indigenous groups and types that he considered significant.

Luxury Travel for photographers in Peru

In all of the above places and many more, the photographer can find an enormous amount of luxury.  Luxury in landscapes, luxury in archeology, luxury in colonial mansions, luxury everywhere. But he can also find luxury in the services offered by the country.  From the people themselves, the food, hotels, transportation by land, rail, lake, river, etc. and all from the hand of a knowledgeable and good tour operator, you have a guaranteed trip.

Let’s talk about some cities:

Cusco

Every visit to the Imperial City is a unique experience. The wonder of its attractions, both historical and scenic, forces the traveler to stop, contemplate the beauty of the place and go in search of the best frame. And every corner of the city of Cusco is full of magic and history that deserve to be perpetuated.

Start the tour with a visit to the Cathedral and the Coricancha and fall in love with its grandeur. Stroll through the neighborhood of San Blas and fill every picture with color or move to the Mirador Cristo Blanco and capture a panoramic view of the entire city. Each Cusco attraction hides a millennial influence that combines Spanish and Peruvian culture, bringing together everything you need to achieve an impressive photo. If you find yourself walking through the Plaza de Armas, be sure to take a selfie with one of the beautiful llamas that walk accompanied by their owners around the place.

Machu Picchu

As Firefall Photography mentions: Machu Picchu: A Challenging Landscape Photography Icon

Nestled on a rocky saddle stretching between two mountains, the ancient citadel overlooks the Urubamba River which cuts a channel 1,600 feet below. Surrounded by clouds at nearly 8,000 feet, Machu Picchu’s green lawns and grey stonework are a striking contrast to the surrounding Peruvian rainforest that constantly strives to reclaim it. As a tourist destination, it is simply inspired, incredible and breath-taking…which is why it was voted as One of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World.

But as a photo location, it can be a bit of a challenge.

Lima

The Peruvian capital also has attractions whose special scenery will allow you to get the best pictures. The combination of past and present that characterizes every corner of the city invites you to record this unique charm. Start your visit with a walk through the historic center and capture the admirable colonial architecture of the palaces, temples and mansions. The Cathedral, the Municipal Palace and the Government Palace are a must on this route. Also discover the colonial balconies that adorn the facades of the main streets from above.

Continue your visit with a walk through Miraflores and Barranco. In both districts you will not only find the most modern side of the capital, but you will also be captivated by the beautiful scenery offered by the extensive coastline of Lima; undoubtedly, the perfect place to take pictures accompanied by the magical sunset.

Finally, complete the tour with a walk through the most emblematic parks of Lima, among which are the Olivar and the Parque de la Reserva. The first, located in San Isidro, conquers by the beauty of its forest full of olive trees and colonial mansions; while the second, located in the neighborhood of Santa Beatriz, amazes with the spectacle of music, lights and water that exhibits its set of thirteen ornamental fountains.

Arequipa

The White City is another must-see place to create interesting photographic compositions. The architecture that makes up its main streets and squares built with sillar -whitish stone of volcanic origin- gives it that special touch that is sought after in every photograph.

The list of places where you can capture all kinds of snapshots is innumerable, but you can start by visiting the Plaza de Armas, the Iglesia de la Compañía or the Barrio de San Lázaro. The best of all is that here you will always find a radiant sun accompanied by a clear sky that will make the colors of your photos more intense and vivid.

Puno

As a city it is quite interesting, but the highlight of the area is the world-famous Lake Titicaca, full of magic and charm with 4486 miles.  Lake Titicaca is shared by Peru and Bolivia.  In the beautiful lake, Peruvian side, apart from admiring its magnificence, you can photograph the native communities such as Uros, Taquile, Amantani among others, full of all the genuineness and charm. And on the Bolivian side, the majestic Sun Island.

The Amazon rainforest

The Amazon River is shared by several countries, but all of them have a wonderful surrounding jungle full of charm and animals of all kinds; it is a marvel for photographers.

As Patrick Murayari of the Association of Photojournalists of Peru says: It is easy to take beautiful photographs in the Amazon, but without reflection they are meaningless.

Therefore, Peru has many other areas as rich as the ones mentioned above, ideal for a photographer, no matter how demanding you may be
