Depart early for the charming indigenous town of Otavalo, nestled about an hour and 50 minutes from outside of Quito in the Andean highlands. This unassuming town is home to one of South America’s largest and oldest indigenous markets, dating back to pre-Inca times. As you wander through the bustling stalls, you’ll discover a vibrant array of handcrafted treasures—from intricate textiles and woven blankets to beautiful leather goods, jewelry, and finely carved wooden figures. On our way to Otavalo we pass Cayambe where we will stop to taste some homemade cheese, and continue to the famous Indian Market. Stroll around the bustling handicraft market showcasing colorful textiles, ponchos, alpaca blankets and other appealing weavings and souvenirs. After shopping we will visit the local traditional food market and immerse in the lively atmosphere. Sample local delicacies like mote, potatoes, fritadas, humitas, fresh fruit juices, and more giving you a taste of the region’s flavors. After exploring the market, enjoy a delicious lunch at one of Otavalo’s cozy local restaurants, where you can savor traditional dishes like the cuy, locro de papa (a creamy potato soup) or fresh trout from the nearby lakes. We continue to the Peguche Waterfall for a splendid view of Cuicocha.
In the afternoon, return to Quito, where you’ll have time to relax and enjoy the luxurious amenities of your hotel, reflecting on the rich culture and traditions you’ve experienced today.

Today we depart from your hotel and drive to one of the largest and active volcanoes in the world, Cotopaxi. Enjoy a scenic ride through the Avenue of the Volcanoes and stunning views of the Andes en route to the Cotopaxi National Park (3,400 m), to see the beautiful gigantic snow-covered volcano. Enjoy the incredible vistas, including adorable alpacas and llamas grazing in the park. Adventure awaits as we descend on our bikes from 4,500 m to 3,800 m, taking in the incredible breathtaking views of the Rumiñahui and the Sincholagua mountains. After a wild adventure we will further explore the refuge and then it’s time to have a delicious lunch. Later we will return to Quito for an afternoon at leisure.
