Our adventure for today will require a very early rise in order to take our flight to Uyuni Salt flat. Upon our arrival, we will start this exciting experience with the visit to the Train Cemetery of old locomotives. In the 19th century, the railroad that linked the Uyuni with Antofagasta in Chile was inaugurated and served to transport tin, silver and even gold to the Pacific ports. The mining industry collapsed in the 1940s, and so dozens of trains were abandoned to their fate. Nowadays the oxide discolors the worn-out pieces of the industrial age, forming a staggering landscape where you can walk and take surreal and affectionate photos between the trains, some of them carry some painted messages.

Advancing on this adventure, we soon find ourselves towards the extraordinary natural beauty of the Salt Flats (3663 mts/12017.7 ft) with 10,582 square kilometers (4,085 square miles) it is known to be the largest Salt Flat in the world. The salt flats were part of a bigger lake, Lake Minchin, a prehistoric lake. Over 40,000 years ago the lake dried up, and left 2 lakes, Poopó and Uru Uru, and 2 saline deserts, the Coipasa and the greater Uyuni. Recently gaining a lot of attraction, the salt flats have become a must-see destination for all tourists who come with the intention of getting the photo of a lifetime. This is the perfect opportunity to create a memory with your loved one which neither of you will forget. We will continue the adventure towards the magnificent Salt Flat (3663 mts/12017.7 ft) with its 10,582 square kilometers (4,085 square miles) is the largest Salt Flat in the world. 40,000 years ago the area was part of Lake Minchin, a gigantic prehistoric lake. When the lake dried up, it left 2 lakes, Poopó and Uru Uru, and two large saline deserts, Coipasa Salt Flat and the greater Uyuni. It is estimated that Uyuni Salt Flat contains 10 billion salt tons of which less than 25,000 tons are extracted annually.

We will travel admiring this astounding landscape and through blocks of salt until we reach the Aymara community of Coquesa (3689 mts/12103.0 ft) that is on the banks of the Tunupa Volcano. Here and at a special place we will have our palatable boxed lunch to recover our strengths and enjoy the landscape.

Then, we will take a short walk ascending to the volcano viewpoint and enjoy an unforgettable panorama surrounded by the beauty of this fairy and whitish setting. We will also observe pre-Inca mummies found on a cave, this cave is a few meters away and houses five mummies of 700 B.C., they preserve almost intact part of the skin, hair, nails and mantles that surrounds them due to the cold and dry climate of the Bolivian Altiplano. Around them you will see diverse utensils, like vessels placed them for taking to their afterlife, some coca leaves, among others. The inhabitants still remember these ancestors and worship them with distinct types of offerings.

At the end of the afternoon you can appreciate a beautiful spectacle of the ravishing sunset on this natural wonder that encourage romance to manifest itself.

Day 12Falling in love with the starry sky (B, L, D)

In order to make the most of our final day on tour, another early rise is in the books for today, but as always they are more than worth the tired eyes. As the sun rises, so will your day, as we will meet you at your hotel before dawn. We will take you to the Salt Flat in order to observe the starry sky in a wonderful spectacle, where you and your loved one can cherish this moment to witness the amount of countless shooting days that will bless your day. With the incredible backdrop, we will be walking amongst the clouds and the stars. Today we will have another very early rise so we can relish our last tour day. Before dawn, we will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to the Salt Flat to observe the starry sky in a breathtaking spectacle in which you can see countless shooting stars. In this unreal landscape we will be walking in the world of clouds and stars which resembles to being in the middle of the Cosmos. Picture being next to your true love contemplating how the moon hides slowly and the sun comes out with the very first golden rays reflected in this immense white mantle, a unique dawn that will definitely leave you speechless.

Once this wonderful natural spectacle has come to a sad end, we will return to the hotel in order to have a wonderful discussion with your partner over an appetizing breakfast and in order to unwind and regain your strength to carry on with the rest of your fun packed day.  After a couple of hours, we will meet you again where we will transfer you to our lunch place where we can take pleasure in the luscious flavors. Then we will visit the Incawasi Island (3700 mts/12139.1 ft) which in Quechua it is translated to “the house of the Incas”. It is said that when the Spaniards controlled these set of lands in the 16th century, their horses could not manage to cross the salt desert and it if for this simple fact that the island became a safe place for some Incas. They reallocated their llamas and therefore managed to find a safe haven in this place. legend recites that when the Spaniards controlled these lands in the 16th century, their horses were not able to cross the salt desert and for this reason, this island became in a safe place for some Incas since they moved in llamas and thus they managed to isolate themselves in this place.

This small island contrasts greatly and from far with the usual scene as it is completely surrounded by the immense expanse of salt of the Uyuni Salt Flat and it is populated by giant cacti, some of them over 3 meters high. Also, from here you will take advantage of the impressive views and vastness of the largest Salt Flat in the world.
Afterwards, you will have some free time to take amusing and creative pictures with unreal effects using the perspective provided by this unusual landscape that looks like an immense glacier and where it is difficult to distinguish where the earth ends and the sky begins.

We bid farewell to this glorious landscape and continue towards Uyuni town to have a mouthwatering dinner at a special place, just before being transported to airport and take your short flight to La Paz.
