We depart your hotel in Cusco making our way to the small Andean town of Chinchero (3762 mt.) to start discovering the world of the Incas. Chinchero was once a country resort to the Incas and was recognized for its very rich soil for farming. It is a lovely town with red earthly hues and spectacular landscapes of the mountains and plateau. Visit the ruins full of aqueducts and agricultural terraces said to have been built by Inca Tupac Yupanqui. Afterward, visit the lovely small colonial chapel and admire the beautiful colorful textiles unique to this region. Next, visit the stunning Maras salt mines to see the white salt ponds sprawled in between the mountains. If lucky you will see the locals gathering the salt by hand not using machinery. Our final visit takes us to extraordinary Moray circular terraces which look like deep bowl depressions on the earth resembling an immense amphitheater or something extraterrestrial. Nonetheless, It is thought the Incas used Moray as an agricultural laboratory. After a fascinating experience, we return to Cusco.
